‘I might want to go to uni one day.’
You might think it’s a bit early to be thinking about uni, but not if you have to choose your subjects now.
If uni’s a possibility for you, now’s the time to get up to speed with what courses are available at which university, and what the course entry requirements are. Pick up a SATAC guide at school and you’ll be able to browse through courses of interest, check out what you need to get in and how you’ll go about applying. Your school career counsellor will also be able to give you some guidance if you get stuck.
How does my SACE study contribute to my uni study?
For starters, if you study maths as part of your SACE, Adelaide University and Uni SA will give you credits towards a range of their courses. Study maths and science as well and Flinders University will give you study credits on a stack of their courses!
Secondly, you can now apply your Vocational Education Training (VET) credits towards your university studies, which is a great opportunity for those who aren’t too sure whether they want to do the uni thing just yet, or if you choose VET and decide you want to build on your learning.
We can’t really say what courses lead to which credits as it depends on many factors, such as your VET qualifications and the uni course you want to do, so we suggest you talk more to your career counsellor, TAFE or check out the uni websites to see what the prerequisites are.
