When he was a child, Simon enjoyed finding out how things worked, especially cars. Mechanical engineering meant he could get to design and build cars, but Simon wanted to get involved with bigger machines. Work placement at a local power station convinced him he wanted to be part of the power industry. Mechanical engineering opened up lots of opportunities for Simon and he now works for Santos, designing and building pipelines.
