My dad was a pilot in the Royal Flying Doctor Service. As a kid, I got to play around with aeroplanes a lot, and so I sort of grew up always being exposed to aircraft. I got to fly occasionally; even got to land an aircraft a few times, which was pretty good.

During high school, I was interested in science and maths, but I was also, sort of, had a leaning towards the arts as well. I was really interested in drama and film making, so I really didn't know what I wanted to do. In the back of my mind I always had this little voice in my head saying, "Computers, technology and science". And eventually that voice won out.

I ended up going down the path of engineering. I liked the idea that in engineering we learned - we better learn how the world works around us, and we can use that knowledge to do amazing things. I was always attracted to the prospect of working for the defence sector, working on aircraft.

Now, I'm working as an electronics engineer at PA Systems and really enjoying it. It gives me the opportunity to work with electronics and flight simulators, starting with a concept for something and then making it all the way through to the final product and looking at this product and going, "I built this. This is - this is my design." That gives me a huge sense of satisfaction.
