When I was a kid, I was always energetic. I couldn't sit still. I loved playing with remote-control cars and fixing and learning how things worked and just generally loved inventing things. Through school I always did pretty well. I was pretty keen, pretty interested. I didn't mind my maths and science subjects. Then, as I got to year 11 and 12, I kind of lost a bit of interest. I went to a couple of university open days and had a look around and decided another four years of sitting down and studying wasn't really for me, I had to use my hands.    

So I finished school and then looked at doing a trade. I applied for a few apprenticeships and, yeah, I found one in the electrical trade. I pretty much aced that. And they sent me to the best place, which was here, ASC. Now I'm an electrical tradesperson and I work on maintenance on the Collins Class Submarines.

Working as an electrical tradesman on Collins Class Submarines is pretty fascinating. They're pretty awesome pieces of machinery. They've got hundreds of different systems, and every one of them has to work in unison. Even the most minute bit of equipment has to work properly to get the whole thing running. And it makes it interesting that when you get out of bed every day, you know, you've got a pretty important job and they're pivotal to the defence of Australia. Getting an apprenticeship, especially in the electricaltrade, my limits are endless, basically. You're always learning and my job opportunities can take me anywhere.
