'I'm not bad, but how do I get better?'

Whether you're good at playing video games, solving maths problems or designing anything from jewellery to surfboards, trying new activities and learning new subjects will help build on your strengths and abilities and set you up for the future.

Through learning lots of new skills you can decide which you enjoy, which are useful and which you can leave behind. And whether it's something you do for fun or learn at school, you can mix up a whole range of different interests. For example if you're in a band and want to record and promote your music, you're probably mixing up music, with computer programming, time management and even design. There's no single formula for success, just what works for you, which is probably different from what works for your best friend.

How do I learn more skills?
Once you become interested in something new, there are plenty of ways to learn and practice. From courses and videos on the web, to books and different lessons at school. And whatever you try, you're going to be developing more skills than you think. Riding a horse is a skill in itself, but it also helps develop your confidence, control, respect and responsibility. Skateboarding gives you balance, technical skills, understanding of how surfaces are built and the different effects they have. Here's a guide for your skills and training options in SA.

I really struggle with some subjects
If something doesn't come naturally, don't give up on your dreams!  All skills can be learnt and improved and once you tackle something you find difficult, you'll also get a boost in your confidence. A lot of people can find technical subjects such as maths and science difficult, but it's worth persisting. Watch Theo, Katrina  and Keryn's stories, to see how they tackled personal struggles and have come out on top, loving every minute of what they do.
